Class: Light as a Medium of Art, Way of Seeing Now
Instructor: James Clar
⌘ Description: Sunlight shining through a white paper window blind, diffused through the fiber textured material. The gap between the edge of the shade and the wall allows a zigzag shaped line of sunlight streaming through.
Time: 11:00 AM
Date: Sep 11, 2019
⌘ Thoughts: I caught this moment while I was reading at home, which doesn’t happen often. I live in a simple, minimally furnished room with a mattress, a nightstand and a dresser. I have never thought there would be anything interesting to see in my room. But then, the fact that it is quite empty was probably why I was able to notice what I wouldn’t normally see or notice.
The light effect has no color, yet creates a peaceful feeling while staring at it. I couldn’t help but staring at the gap that let the sunlight streaming through. For the first time, I started looking at the fiber texture of the window shade made visible by the source of light that comes behind it. The gray shadows of the branches on the blind adds some interactivity and movement. The natural light source, interacting with still objects creates a constantly changing effect.
